This is because it allows me to ask questions on the spot from my lecturers who are experts in the field of mathematics. Pride and Prejudice Essay Pride and Prejudice is a nineteenth century novel written by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is about a lady named Elizabeth Bennet, one of the five Bennet sisters who must marry a wealthy man, as she stumbles across the prideful Mr. Darcy. This novel is particularly interesting because it shows the overcoming of huge character flaws for love. The author, Austen, tries to stress the point about love always finding its way. Admittance of love and proposal, omitting initial prejudices, and two lovers falling in love and marriage proves the point of two people falling in love and overcoming prejudices towards those in different social classes. Omission of initial prejudices allows for people to interact more frequently leading to better relationships. Austen says, ââ¬Å"Gave him to understand, that her sentiments had undergone so material a change since the period to which he alluded toâ⬠(354). Elizabeth, in this quote, is trying to tell Mr. Darcy that her mind has changed since his last proposal, essentially, overcoming her initial prejudice towards him and the people of his social class. Elizabeth truly loves Darcy, and that is why she has undergone such a change to prove it which also shows the supersession of her character flaw, prejudice. The novel encourages a sense of superiority over other charactersâ⬠(Neckles). Christina Neckles acknowledges the fact that Mr. Darcy feels a sense of superiority over Elizabeth because of her social class. This quote relates back to the theme because as he lets go of this feeling and prejudice it enables him to truly and willingly love Elizabeth fully and vice versa for Elizabeth, she feels superior in a knowledgeable sense. ââ¬Å"Darcys pride, which causes him to reject Elizabeth and her family, and Elizabeths resulting prejudice, which is reinforced by Wickhams false story about Darcy. (Zimmerman) This quote from Zimmerman reinforces the idea that it is Darcyââ¬â¢s pride and Elizabethââ¬â¢s prejudiced that leads them away from each other and yet brings them together. Their relationship was tarnished because of these flaws but with the omitting of their problems it allowed to realize the loved each other. Because of Elizabethââ¬â¢s strong sense of love towards Mr. Darcy, she was able to overcome her initial prejudice towards him. Admittance of love and proposal towards a person stresses the theme of love finding its way. Mr.à Darcy states, ââ¬Å"In vain have I struggle. It will not do. My feelings will not be represses. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you. â⬠(188) Mr. Darcy is trying to tell Elizabeth that he does not want to love her but unfortunately, he cannot do anything about and he is truly in love with her. By Mr. Darcy proposing and saying this, it shows how Austen is trying to portray the fact that his love for Elizabeth, overcomes the fact that she is in a lower social class. ââ¬Å"Darcyââ¬â¢s letter is not persuaded to change her opinionâ⬠(Soni). Mr.à Darcyââ¬â¢s letter of his admittance of love was a huge swallowing of pride towards Elizabeth, and this quote shows how Elizabeth still upholds her pride. Although the letter towards Elizabeth temporarily leaves her confused about Mr. Darcy, this is the turning point and crisis in the book where love starts to find its way. ââ¬Å"Elizabeths attachment to Darcy results from the clarification of her vision, not from the modification of her values; consequently, the view that the novel suggests a blending of two contrasting value systems, two extremes searching for a middleâ⬠(Zimmerman). This quotes says that since Darcyââ¬â¢s extreme pride and Elizabethââ¬â¢s extreme prejudice, they found love and a common place in the middle of their matters. Their love and admittance of love is found because they despise each other so much that they meet in the middle. Through Mr. Darcyââ¬â¢s proposal, and letter, it proves that his love for Elizabeth is strong enough to overthrow his pride and also his prejudice towards her, and her social class. People, falling in love and getting married even further proves the theme of love finding its way. Elizabeth says, ââ¬Å"Gave him to understand, that her sentiments had undergone so material a change since the period to which he alluded toâ⬠(354). Elizabeth says here that she accepts Mr. Darcyââ¬â¢s proposal and she would like to marry him. Mr. Darcy overcame his pride and proposed to Elizabeth, and she overcame her prejudice of Darcy and said yes. ââ¬Å" But when Elizabeth decides to marry Darcy, there is finality to her Judgment. (Soni) This quote is showing how her judgment of Darcy has come to an end, the matter of social class difference no longer is of concern to the two lovers. This quote also proves that love always finds its way regardless of personal pride and social classes. ââ¬Å"I always had a value for him. Were it for nothing but his love of you, I must always have esteemed himâ⬠(Morgan). This quote relates to the marriage and love Elizabeth has for Darcy which relates to love finding its way. She always had a ââ¬Å"valueâ⬠for him which shows she always cared but didnââ¬â¢t know how to show it. By the marriage of Darcy and Elizabeth, it supports the theme of love finding its way, regardless of social class and pride. Love between two people will always find its way, regardless of personal pride, and also regardless of the prejudices we bestow on the people of a different social class. Now, and even back then, the ââ¬Å"classâ⬠we are put into is essential to who we associate ourselves with and who we marry as a result. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen proves that those in a different social class can fall in love and get married.

The Philippines is filled with culture, practices, and ways of respect that some westerners may find odd and weird. The history of Philippines is filled with occupations, freedom, facts, etc. The economy of Philippines once successful until the Filipino Downfall in the 60s. Before the late 15 Century had no real religion except for the Visayans until the Spanish when the brought the Spanish Inquisition. The Government was complicated from Visayan Kingdom Era (Visayan is the Major Tribe which was similar to the Eastern Government System like Chine (China at the Time), Kingdom of Korea [Gyeorgary Era], and Empire of Japan), to Spanish Philippines, to Republic of Philippines, to American Territory of Philippines, to Japanese State of Philippines, to Republic of Philippines. The Philippines is filled with amazing information. In the Philippines, we have many stories and signs of respect to offer. The Philippines has few folk tale stories with lessons, White Street Lady is completely covered in white drapes standing on the side of a road and if you dont stop for her, you will see red eyes right before you die, lesson, be kind, Duende or Filipino Version of leprechaun, give him food and in a few days youll find his pot of gold,lesson, be nice and youll be rewarded, and lastly, Filipino Version of Mermaid, it will be the most beautiful person youve ever seen, but come to close and shell pull you into the water and drown you until you die, she will then eat your remains, lesson, dont get caught up will lust and beauty, it will consume you, (In this Case, Literally). We also have our ways to show respect such as Blessing Elders, Praying before eating, and taking off your shoes before entering a house. During eating, we eat like a normal American except for the fact we eat rice in every meal. Culture is an impo rtant and vital thing in an average Filipino and a Filipino Identity. The economy of the Philippines is a quite disappointing story. Once the Philipines freed itself in 1945, right after (WW2) was the wealthiest country in all of Asia. Korea was rebuilding from the Japanese and a crisis is brewing between Communist North and Capitalist South, China is going through a civil war, and Japan was rebuilding from the war and paying for the war to the allies, the others are still colonies or going through a independence war (Indochina[Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos], British Raj [India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar/Burma], British Malay[Malaysia], Dutch Indonesian [Indonesia]. It continued to prosper becoming the first Asian Nation to have a public International Airport and invented many things and prospered until the end of Marcas Reign in the 70s. Now people say Marcus was a dictator but thats not true, after him corruption went through the roof crashingÃâà the industries and then Singapore, China, S. Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, and Taiwan quickly took its place and continued to fight until the 4 remaining formed the Four Asian Tigers, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Singapore. However a man similar to Marcus named Deturte, some experts say with him, Corruption has gone down by a huge margin and soon join the Asian Tigers. The Filipino Government changed many times especially in the past 100 years. It started before the Spaniards, the biggest tribe was the Visayan Kingdom(Visayan is the Major Tribe which was similar to the Eastern Government System like Chine [China at the Time], Kingdom of Korea [Gyeorgary Era], and Empire of Japan) Philippines became the Spanish Colony of Philippines. Then after an independence war which Created the Republic of Philippines the Philippines was quickly surprised when their previous ally ,US, said that they were part of the US and had the Philippine-American War which made the Philippines a US Territory this made the Republic of the Philippines into the American Territory of the Philippines. The US promised to release the Philippines in 1940 but was delayed to a little thing called World War 2. In 1945 after the war the Philippines was independent again as a Democratic Nation. The Philippines is a beautiful, independent, and free nation. We mustnt forget our culture for that is where we came from, no matter what the culture.Ãâà May Pearl of the East live in prosperity and freedom til the end of time like how it has been. The country is filled with rich culture and history.

Dreiser's Reversal of Male/Female Roles in Sister Carrie à The novel Sister Carrie seems to be the platform from which Dreiser explores his unconventional views of the genders. In the world of Sister Carrie, it would seem that the role of women as trusting, caring creatures, and men as scheming victimizers is reversed; it is Carrie that uses the men around her to get what she wants, and it is those men who are victimized by her. Thus Dreiser uses this novel as a means of questioning the popular notions of gender and the role that it plays in modern society. à à à à In Sister Carrie, it would seem that Carrie, while outwardly benign, and possibly even deserving of her portrayal as sweet and innocent at the beginning, soon emerges as a ruthless predator in the guise of a helpless woman. From her relationship with Drouet, she manages to gain the experience and social skills to pursue higher aspirations. She seems to stay with Drouet only long enough to see that better things are available, comforts more extravagant than Drouet can provide, and cultural experiences and social nuances whose existence Drouet seems unaware of. Drouet, then, acts as a stepping stone for her. When he no longer has anything he can offer her, she drops him in favor of Hurstwood. In Hurstwood, Carrie sees all that lacks in Drouet--a more acute sense of culture and worldliness, and the wealth to explore the new wonders of civilized Chicago life. à Hurstwood serves as yet another step in her ladder to success, and when he sinks into poverty and self-disgrace after his divorce, she sees him as a no longer being an asset, and leaves him in favor of striking out on her own, leaving him to turn into a beggar, while she makes it big. Too, after she makes it big, and Drouet comes to see her, she can no longer see him as a friend worthy of her company, and in fact avoids ever seeing him again. The fact that she owes her success to Drouet and Hurstwood seems inconsequential to her. It would seem also at the end of her road to fame, when she is receiving social invitations from millionaires and famous figures, that she sees herself as being to good for any of them; she sees herself as being too good for the company of any man.

Infant/Early Childhood Naturalistic Observation Essay
I observed a classroom of four-year-old students who are enrolled at the Child Development Center on the George Mason University campus. This observation lasted about fifteen minutes with a total of twelve students in the classroom. At the time of my observation the students were engaging in free playtime where they are allowed to play games, make crafts, and interact with their fellow classmates. I was seated in the corner of the classroom where the children could not easily see me or get distracted by me. I stayed seated throughout the whole observation so the students would not be affected by my presence. Many different activities were happening at the same time, but a couple standout situations reminded me of many subject areas we focused on in class. One particular observation was the various styles of play the students were engaging in. About half of the students were engaging in constructive play while the others were engaging in dramatic play. Constructive play is characteriz ed by the act of creating or constructing something while dramatic, or make-believe play, is characterized by acting out everyday and imaginary roles (Berk, 2010, p262). The two play styles are very common in children around the age of four. There were about five children playing ââ¬Å"house.â⬠In the family there was a child pretending to be the mommy, the daddy, the older brother, the younger sister, and the puppy. The mommy was making dinner while the daddy was watching television and supervising the children while they did their homework. The young girl who was acting as the puppy gave out a few occasional ââ¬Å"ruffsâ⬠to make her presence known. The young girl, who assumed her role as the mother, yelled out ââ¬Å"dinners ready.â⬠The two young kids pretending to be the children stopped doing homework and sat down at the dinner table. The young girl playing the mom sternly said to her children ââ¬Å"be careful, the food is very hot. It just came out of the oven.â⬠They continued this story for the remainder of my observation with various story lines and new characters added to the story. This scenario depicts the perfect explanation of the type of play style described as dramatic play. Dramatic play permits children to fit the reality of the world into their own interests and knowledge. One of the purest forms of symbolic thought available to young children, dramatic play, contributes strongly to theà intellectual development of children. Young children learn by imagining and doing and dramatic play allows them to do so. Dramatic play also promotes the use of speaking and listening skills. When children take part in this type of play, they practice words they have heard others say, and realize that they must listen to what other ââ¬Å"playersâ⬠say in order to be able to respond in an appropriate fashion. This style of play also promotes the development of social skills through interaction with others, peers or adults, which is a necessary factor in a childââ¬â¢s future. While some children were playing ââ¬Å"houseâ⬠others were taking part in constructive play. In this stage, toddlers have a deep understanding of what various objects can do and will now try to build things with the toys and everyday objects they find around them. One child had a box of blocks and was building a train track. Once he finished he assembled a line of trains to ride along the track he had just built. He repeatedly made noises that trains usually make such as ââ¬Å"choo-choo.â⬠Other children were interlocking Lego blocks and creating various structures while some were playing with play-dough and sculpting whatever came to their mind. When toddlers play with these open-ended materials, they have the chance to build many different skills. These could include using art materials to create a picture or project giving toddlers practice using fine motor skills that they need to write and perform tasks that they will need for the rest of their lives. You may never t hink that the different styles of play a child engages in effects them or their future, but when you look deeper into the various cognitive and motor developments these plays enhance you can see that it is very important for all children to participate in these behaviors. Stationary vs. Stationery Stationary vs. Stationery Stationary vs. Stationery By Mark Nichol Writers have long been stymied by the resemblance between stationary and stationery, or by ignorance of the fact that distinct words exist to describe the condition of motionlessness and the class of materials for written correspondence. Progress may make this point moot, because our society is slowly but inexorably abandoning stationery as a medium of communication, but itââ¬â¢s still important to make the distinction. Stationery is so spelled because itââ¬â¢s derived from stationer, the archaic word for a bookseller or publisher; these merchants also sold writing materials and implements. (Stationer, in turn, stems from the Latin term stationem, meaning ââ¬Å"station,â⬠which acquired the sense of ââ¬Å"market stall.â⬠Of course, the Latin word is the origin of stationary, too. Something stationary is something that is maintaining its station.) Similar-looking words donââ¬â¢t share that direct etymology but are related. Static, as an adjective meaning ââ¬Å"showing little change,â⬠comes from the Greek word statikos, ââ¬Å"causing to stand,â⬠which was borrowed into Latin as staticus. The basis of statikos also led to stasis, which means ââ¬Å"slowing,â⬠ââ¬Å"stagnation,â⬠or ââ¬Å"stability.â⬠State, status, statute, statistic, and statue, as well as the suffix -stat (thermostat, and so on) and stet, the editing directive meaning ââ¬Å"leave as it wasâ⬠are all relatives of station and its derivatives. Do you have difficulty remembering when to use stationary and when to write stationery?
